Lap-Band Surgery To Lose Weight The Normal

Lifestyle and treatment to achieve weight loss will improve health for some individuals and should remain the first choice for adolescent obesity, in a study funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council. One study author John Dixon of Monash University, reported the consultancy agreement with Allergan and other companies.

"This is not a quick fix," said O'Brien. "The operation itself is very safe and relatively simple, but-after treatment is a constant problem."

Gastric banding group did not experience side effects in the period shortly after surgery, the authors said. Eight operations to adjust or repair the pipe band that is connected to the band needed in seven patients in the surgery group.

"Metabolic syndrome is one risk factor for heart disease, and we throw away" after lap-band operation, O'Brien said in a telephone interview. "Fats in the blood to be normal, their blood sugar return to normal and high blood pressure they disappear. To have something that takes away all the risk factors is a very good thing."

Although this study was not designed to measure the increase in certain health problems, it showed a decrease in the group conditions associated with increased risk of heart disease and diabetes.

In the current study, two years after surgery, gastric banding group had lost an average of 34 kilograms (76 pounds), an overall average loss of 28 percent of the total weight and 79 percent of overweight, the researchers said. For comparison, the lifestyle group lost an average of 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds), or an average of 3.1 percent total weight loss and losing 13 percent of excess weight.

Gastric banding done when surgeons place the band around the upper abdomen or the stomach, to make bags to store their own food, which limit the intake of the food into the stomatch. Reversible procedure is one of the two most commonly to reduce excessive weight.
